JOB OVERVIEW
As a Cost Accountancy Manager, your primary responsibility is to manage and oversee the cost accounting function within an organization. You will be responsible for analyzing costs, developing cost-control strategies, and providing financial insights to support decision-making. Your role is crucial in optimizing costs, improving profitability, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement cost accounting policies, procedures, and systems to accurately track and analyze costs.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of cost reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS), standard costs, variances, and profitability analysis.
- Conduct cost audits and reviews to identify areas of cost improvement and cost control opportunities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as production, procurement, sales, marketing, custom, and finance, to gather cost-related data and ensure accurate cost allocation.
- Analyze production processes, material usage, labor costs, and overhead expenses to identify cost-saving initiatives and recommend process improvements.
- Monitor inventory levels, valuation, and inventory cost accuracy, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Develop and maintain cost models and cost forecasting techniques to support budgeting and financial planning processes.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to management for strategic decision-making, such as pricing, product profitability, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the review and analysis of cost-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely cost-related financial reporting, including cost of sales, inventory valuation, and cost-related disclosures.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in cost accounting and cost management.
- Train and mentor staff members within the cost accounting department, providing guidance and support in cost-related matters.
Qualifications/Knowledge, Necessary Skill, Experience, and abilities requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CMA (Certified Management Accountant) are highly desirable.
- Proven experience in cost accounting, cost management, or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, practices, and standards.
- Proficiency in using cost accounting software and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and modeling.
- Solid understanding of financial statements, cost allocation methods, and cost control techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify cost drivers, variances, and improvement opportunities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and present financial insights to management.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team of cost accountants.
